Good Agricultural Practices (APB)

A resource management system in agricultural production in a good and sustainable manner. This system can increase farm productivity as well as produce safe and quality food by taking into account the welfare, safety and health of workers as well as preserving the environment.

Malaysian Good Agricultural Practice (myGAP)

A certification scheme designed by the Department of Agriculture in 2002 to give recognition to farms that adopt APB with an environmentally friendly concept, safeguarding the welfare and safety of workers to produce quality, safe and edible products. myGAP is a rebranding to replace the Malaysian Good Farm Practices Scheme (SALM). This scheme was developed based on Malaysian Standard MS 1784: 2005 Crop Commodities - Good Agricultural Practice (GAP).
  • As an aid in the Agricultural Techno Development System (SPTP) of the Department of Agriculture.
  • It is the practice of entrepreneurs in carrying out activities on the farm to produce fresh produce that is better quality and safe to eat.
  • Produce quality agricultural products that are safe to eat.
  • Production productivity increases.
  • The safety and welfare of farm workers is guaranteed.
  • Agricultural products are easily recognizable and can compete in the domestic and international markets.
  • Preserving the environment.
  • Poor use of pesticides.
a) The categories of applicants are as follows:
  • Private
  • Private companies
  • Statutory Agency / Agency
b) Applicants must ensure:
  • The land cultivated is legal.
  • Farms have begun to plant and produce produce.
  • The proceeds are intended for domestic sales or exports.
a) MyGAP application must be made using the myGAP 1-1 Application Form. Forms are available at:
  • Crop Quality Control Division, Putrajaya Agriculture Department
  • State Department of Agriculture
  • District Agriculture Office
  • Official Portal of the Department of Agriculture
b) The completed application form must be submitted to the nearest District Agriculture Office. The set of documents that need to be submitted is as follows:
  • MyGAP Application Form 1-1
  • Certified copy of SSM identity card / Registration Certificate.
  • Copy of proof of land ownership such as land grant, land lease agreement letter and land management permit letter.
Participation in this scheme is voluntary and the services provided are FREE.
Applicants must pass the following three things:
  • Site Inspection
  • Results analysis for pesticide residues, heavy metals and microbial
  • Farm practice audit
a) Pre-Audit
  • Conducted to ensure that entrepreneurs practice good agricultural practices and meet the requirements of myGAP certification.
  • Pre-audit officers consist of District Level Department of Agriculture Officers.
  • District Department of Agriculture officials will take sample samples for the purpose of analysis of pesticide residues, heavy metals and microbial.
b) Follow-up Audit
  • External audits are conducted to identify operators practicing and adhering to good agricultural practices based on the standards that have been set and subsequently recommend for certification.
  • The audit is carried out by the Agriculture (Technical) Department Officer who has been appointed by the Director General of Agriculture
The validity period of myGAP certification is two years.
Periodic monitoring will be carried out at least once a year by the Department of Agriculture.
  • Renewal applications must be submitted within six months before the expiration date.
  • Certificate renewal will be issued if the farm still complies with the stipulated conditions.
MyGAP recognition may be revoked for the following reasons:
  • Do not renew the certificate upon expiration.
  • If during that period the farm is found to have failed to comply with the stipulated conditions.
  • Misuse of myGAP certificates and logos in any way.
